Job Title: Buyer
Reporting To: Project Commercial Leads / Commercial Team Manager
The Role
You will be part of the Commercial Team immediately reporting to project Commercial Leads as to the purchasing strategy and target performance against suppliers and subcontract packages, with ultimate overall responsibility to the Commercial Team Manager.
You will drive the commercial performance of your procurement decisions, managing your workload across all Healthcare schemes, therefore a proven track record of commercial experience and purchasing is sought.
You will be a member within a fast-paced procurement team and play a crucial role in managing the acquisition of elemental and modular components and services necessary to meet the demands of our programmes both for module assembly and site fit out completions.
Responsible for evaluating and selecting suppliers, you will negotiate terms and prices to ensure cost-effectiveness, quality and adherence to specification. You should stay informed with regard to market trends, regulations, and technological advancements to be able to make informed decisions. Site visits to supplier’s premises to develop personal relationships and view manufacturing processes should be considered.
Effective communication, negotiation, and working within a team as well as autonomously are essential skills, alongside the capacity to monitor and report on procurement trackers; track supplier performance; confirming deliveries and adherence to company SOPs.
The role is key for strategic procurement within the organisation; nurturing relationships with suppliers and advancing opportunities for the rebate scheme.It is essential you have an eye for detail in ensuring our contractual conditions are issued with all purchase and subcontract orders.
Key Responsibilities
- Negotiate terms and conditions and pricing to comply for betterment against cost plan allowances.
- Good understanding of how your own work integrates with the wider project teams and the Commercial department.
- Ability and confidence to resolve issues based upon knowledge and adherence within established company procedures and values.
- Consults team manager for issues outside of defined policies.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- An inquisitive mind with the ability to explain technical information to others, as well as understanding or challenging procurement scheduled materials for correctness.
- Identify potential alternative suppliers to expand the existing supply chain.
- Competent use of excel; database for order generation and invoice processing such as the COINS system.
- Pro-actively manage suppliers to achieve deliveries on time, even when changes to original purchase order requirements occur. Be able to monitor and update latest information releases.
- Pro-active avoidance of any potential risks relating to late product delivery.
- Be able to recognise items that require immediate purchasing priority as required by the assembly facility or site, to meet deadline dates.
- Managing plant hire budgets and chasing off-hire confirmations.
- Engage in Process Improvement and Change Control activities.
- Onboarding new suppliers.
- Generate and populate packing lists in liaison with Factory Storeman.
General
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to be flexible and work outside core hours on occasion.
- Travel to the assembly facility and sites occasionally.
- Must be able to work in the UK without restrictions & meet UK government security vetting criteria.

- Adhere to all relevant Health and Safety procedures and observe safe working practices and contribute to and enhance a safe working environment.
- To advise upon any Health & Safety issues promptly.
- CSCS card required to be held (or gained).

- Microsoft Word, Excel, COINS and our own design information scheduling system.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects whilst under pressure.
- Attention to detail is paramount.
- Business process awareness and adherence.
- Detailed understanding of commercial principles and practices.
- Previously working within a dynamic and fast paced purchasing function for a minimum 5 years in Engineering; Manufacturing or Construction would be ideal.
- Experience of subcontract buying is a benefit but not essential.
